Expanded Activity

My first activity for my students was to create a personal blog, and to post positive comments on others people's blogs. A way I could expand on this activity is to assign partners in the class. I would make sure that the partners I assign didn't really know each other. I would then have them post a short summary blog about their partner based on their partner's pesonal blog and new information they have larned about them. This activity would help my students get closer to their classmates, learn new things about their classmates, and hopefully make a new friend.

  1. I like how you have them team up to write about their partner. It is a good way for others to get to know other classmates.

  2. I like that idea! Teachers have always tried "get to know you" activities in my classes before but no one really felt comfortable talking to strangers in person. Having them get to know each other online may make the activity more successful and could help your students get to know each other.

  3. I like the partner idea! That would be a great way to help kids get to know one another and build trust in the classroom. I love the scenery on your blog. It is very peaceful.

  4. This is awesome! Too many times kids just "go to class" and don't really at all take the time to meet new kids in school because of the teacher's lack of group project assignments. I think this is vital in a positive learning environment. Great ideas!

  6. I like the idea of creating a positive blogging environment. It will make students feel safe and comfortable to express their ideas and thoughts without the thought of being ridiculed or made fun of.

  7. Pairing the students for the blogging activity would be a great way for the students to meet their peers and potientally make a new friend? Would the students remain with their assigned partners throughout the school year?

  8. Expanding upon Rachel's question. I was also wondering whether the children would just use this as a one time beginning of school activity or if they would continue this throughout the school year. Maybe the students could have a different partner each week of school until the whole class had introduced themselves to each other. After they completed that they could make a presentation about everything they learned about all of their classmates.

  10. I really like this idea! It would help students get to know their peers in the class that they might not have thought about talking to if it hadn't been for you giving them the assignment. It's a good way to help them communicate with strangers in a real world situation.
